Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for doubts to be asked about his future after another heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the team's worst streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got plenty of backing from management,” the coach commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Reaction
The manager highlighted known failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell of this nature with results so bad.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
