Fans Call for Detainment of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of the pop star are urging that a person who jumped a fence and grabbed the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A circulating clip shows the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the cast made its way down a yellow carpet flanked by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram recently that he was "let go after being detained", though official papers indicated that he was due to be present on the next day. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
History of Disruptions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram feed contains recordings of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney show in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last December.
"Measures must be taken enforced against him as this is evidently a punishable act," commented an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Safety
Several followers criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed suffering from PTSD after a devastating incident at the end of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote one more message on Instagram.
A number of attendees also criticised guards at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while some requested online networks to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Event Details
In clips circulating online, Grande appeared startled when she was touched by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has remained silent on the incident, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of supporters had congregated in a crowd of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore venue, including some who had queued for as long as many hours before it started.
The film, to be premiered on 21 November, is the second of a two-part adaptation of the acclaimed theatrical production Wicked, which revolves around the surprising relationship between two distinct characters.
The show itself is a derivative of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was adorned in a rosé sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful film of last year in the UK, and received ten award recognitions, earning two for excellent wardrobe and production design.
