New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during their recent conversation.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn commented. “His family, they’re in good spirits and he will come through this without issue.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition.

“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and his words reflect that optimism.”

New York police issued video stills Monday of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and police mentioned it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries as confirmed by officials.

The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday in the area between MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “a great deal” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a newborn.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, worrying about his newborn and I hope he recovers fully. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd hasn’t played this season, his first with the Jets, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as a free agent in March and was expected to be an important component of an improved special teams group under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a practice session on August 2 and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he attends every game. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of UT in the 2019 draft. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
