The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.
Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
